France I Division

 

France. Ranked 19th by UEFA, believe it or not... but French football was not among the leading in Europe at the time and the 5-year point system used by UEFA place them down. Yet, France got 5 teams in the Europen tournaments whether Turkey had only 3, which presented more realistic view of football strenght. Last 3 teams – relegated to II Division.

Olympique Marseille won their 3rd title – counting only professional league championships. The previous one came in 1947-48 – long wait indeed, but the squad appeared dominant and ready to stay on top long time.
