1970
The year of the best World Cup. Still many rank the tournament best. And, as usual, the world finals eclipsed everything else.
There was more than the World Cup, played in Mexico, but the most important change was still in its early stage, not fully blown. Yet, the early signs were present: attacking football was coming back challenging the stubbornly defensive football of the 1960s. New players were bringing it – Franz Beckenbauer and Johan Cruijff – but still Pele ruled. However, he and Brazil represented exactly attacking football and they won the World Cup, so there. Other changes made themselves present as well – if tactically there was no revolution yet, ate least new winds were felt. Exciting year.
