Uruguay I Division

Uruguay. Top league was increasing to 12 teams and that made for complicated championship formula. Three teams were promoted from Third Division. One was relegated – two-season average was used for that. Directly promoted was the champion of Second Division, which was played as simple league championship. But the next two teams in the final table went to promotion/relegation tournament with 2 teams from First Division. Top league itself had two parts: the first was standard league championship, which only determined where teams will play in the second phase: the top 6 teams competed for the title, a mini-championship starting from scratch. The bottom 5 teams played relegation round and the last two to promotion/relegation tournament along with 2nd and 3rd placed in Second division – the top two teams went to First Division, the last two – to Second Division. The scheme eventually was going to make a top league of 12 teams and Second Division of 10 teams the next season. Critical point was that the regular season practically counted for nothing more than qualifying to the the next stage, where everybody srarted with 0 points and at least theoretically the 6th placed in the regular season could be a champion if having only five exceptional games. As ever, all particpants in First, Second, and Third Division represented Montevideo.

Argentina. Campeonato Metropolitano

Argentina. 2 championship, so some explanation is needed – the to 12 in the Metropolitano qualified to play in the Nacional. The next 4 teams played 'petit' championship and the top 2 also moved to Nacional. No team was directly promoted from Second Division (Primera B), three teams were relegated – not directly, but after more playing. The last 2 in the 'petit' tournament plus the last 5 in the table played 'reclassification' tournament. The top three teams remained in the top division, the last two were relegated. The 4th and 5th went to final promotion-relegation tournament with the top 2 teams in Primera B (Ferro Carril Oeste and Almirante Brown). The two teams in this tournament were to play in the top league next season, the other two – in Primera B.
