Inter-Cities Fairs Cup. Trivia: the second leg between Aris (Thesaloniki) and Cagliari in the first round was abandoned in the 76th minute. Cagliari was leading 3-0 and the result stood. Ajax (Amsterdam) reached the semi-final, where was eliminated by Arsenal 0-3 and 1-0. In the previous year Ajax played at the European Champions Cup final, now reached the semi-finals – Ajax was coming!

Anderlecht had a great run to the final – they eliminated Valur Reykjavik 6-0 and 2-0, Coleraine 6-1 and 7-3, Dunfermline Athletic 1-0 and 2-3, Newcastle United 2-0 and 1-3, and Inter (Milano) 0-1 and 2-0. They lost to Arsenal only by one goal. Although international success will come in the second half of the 1970s, Anderlecht was strong and well respected club during the 1960s – too bad they were unable to win this time.
Perhaps it was just about time for Arsenal to win international trophy – this squad was at its peak.
