Cagliari in their greatest moment: first time Italian champions. Since no other Cagliari's vintage won anything, this squad is the best ever and it was serious squad, led by great Gigi Riva.
Standing fron left: Nenè, Albertosi, Domenghini, Niccolai, Tomasini, Riva. Crouching: Greatti, Martiradonna, Gori, Cera, Zignoli. That was the regular formation of the champions and it was no joke – 3 1968 European champipons, even if only Riva was with Cagliari at the time. Albertosi and Domenghini joined Cagliari in 1969. Six players – Albertosi, Domenghini, Niccolai, Riva, Cera and Gori – went to the 1970 World Cup and finished with silver medals. Brazilian midfielder Nene was already one of the last foreign players remaining in Italy, but he was kew player for Cagliari since 1964. Ricciotti Greatti and Mario Martiradonna should be mentioned as well – along with Gigi Riva they were milestones of the team and its rise, going all the way from 1963-64, when Cagliari was promoted for the first time to Serie A to the title. Well, that was the glory of Sardinia.
