Cup:  Offenbacher FC Kickers          2-1 1.FC Köln.
Surprise, surprise – Second Level team won the Cup. True, Kickers had strong season , 1. FC Koln was solid Bundesliga member and classier in any case, led by Overath. Yet, the less famous boys prevailed by one goal.

Arguably, the best season ever for Kickers (Offenbach) – they won the German Cup, still playing second level football, and after that capped the year by earning promotion to the Bundesliga. Compared to the other finalist, rather anonymous team – only Helmut Kremers rings a bell, but that from today's perspective. West German football got not only brand new champion this season, but also a new and surprising Cup winner.
