DDR the Cup

Cup:

FC Vorwärts Berlin 4:2 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig

Lokomotive (Leipzig) had rare achievement for the time: Second-division team reaching a cup final. They lost it, but won promotion to top flight – wonderful season overall.

At this poit Vorwaerts was still the most successful East German team, but the political winds were blowing in different direction already – the State Security Police was taking power from the Army, to which Vorwaerts belonged. This was the last triumph of Vorwaerts, which was to be moved from East Berlin to Frankfurt/Oder a year after they won the Cup.Yes, they got their own medicine, for originally they were moved from Leipzig to the capital. Anyway, theyr were still strong in 1970.
