None of the strongest teams in the league succeeded in the Cup tournament. Familiar, yet, with different fate, clubs reached the final.

B 1909 were declining, rapidly becoming the second and 'smaller' club of Odense. The season was a disaster - 15th place in the league and relegated. In the year ,when their city rivals dominated the championship. Winning the Cup was more than just saving face – it was a chance to come equal with OB and actually to bring all trophies to the city. In front of 13 000-strong crowd, quite huge for Denmark, B 1909 tried... and failed. They lost 1-2, a minimal loss, but a loss and no cup. Relegated and empty-handed B 1909. Their opponents clinched the victory by a goal and snatched the Cup. They were Vejle BK.

To a point, Vejle also had to save face: the 1970s were good, strong years for Vejle. They were consistently at the top of league – not dominant, not repeating winners, but not falling at all. Stable, competitive, possible and probable contenders, occasional winners. Yet, to a point, the season was 'lost', for they finished at 4th place. The Cup is separate opportunity, but helps to forget the misery of the championship too. Vejle won the Cup – not bad at all.
